We’re building the world’s best banking app, and we can only do this if we hire the world’s best engineers. Monzo has 25 engineers today and we need to grow to hundreds of engineers over the coming years. We want you to direct that growth by owning the engineering hiring at Monzo.

For the last 10 months we have been hiring engineers as fast as we could. We received 1500 applications, spoke to 500 people in person, interviewed 100 on-site and hired 15 full time engineers. While we could not be happier with the people that we did hire, we are looking for somebody to take our process to the next level.

Your role will be to scale and accelerate our engineering hiring process while ensuring we’re hiring engineers of ever-increasing talent.

You will work very closely with the CTO Jonas and our Hiring Coordinator Beth as part of our Company Operations team. You’ll also spend a lot of your time working with individual hiring managers who own specific roles such as iOS Engineer or Android Engineer.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensuring the pipeline of candidates is running smoothly across all technical roles, working closely with hiring managers to secure the best talent in the quickest time.
  • Attracting the best engineering talent: representing Monzo at career fairs, attending as many relevant tech events as possible, working with specialist job boards, and more!
  • Conducting initial conversations with interested engineers to see if they would be a good fit and proactively engaging great talent in the industry.
  • Suggesting improvements to our hiring process based on your observations and checking our biases in engineering hiring.

You will need to ensure that we are measuring everything, so that you can determine both the most impactful channels and which parts of our process need optimising:

  • How many applications did we get from this blog post that made it to the front page of HN?
  • How does that effort compare to going to a university job fair?
  • Which bits of our funnel are most expensive?
  • How high is our false positive rate per channel?
  • What is our false negative rate - can that even be measured?

You should apply if:

It is not necessary to have a recruiting background. This role would also be ideal for ex-Engineers looking for a change of career.
